No Space, Just a Place. Eterotopia: Η νέα έκθεση του οίκου Gucci στη Σεούλ

Ένα σύμπαν που υμνεί τη διαφορετικότητα

Τι θα γινόταν αν μεταφερόμασταν σε ένα κόσμο όπου η διαφορετικότητα θα ήταν αποδεκτή; Αυτό μάς καλεί να σκεφτούμε για ακόμη μία φορά ο οίκος Gucci με τη νέα του έκθεση με τίτλο No Space, Just a Place. Eterotopia στο Μουσείο Daelim της Σεούλ στη Νότια Κορέα. 

Το πολυεπίπεδο project επιμελήθηκε η Myriam Ben Salah, αρχισυντάκτρια του περιοδικού Kaleidoscope και ο creative director του ιταλικού οίκου, Alessandro Michele. To project στοχεύει στην υποστήριξη του πλούσιου πολιτιστικού τοπίου και της σκηνής σύγχρονης τέχνης της Σεούλ, αντλώντας έμπνευση από τη "σύνθετη ιστορία ανεξάρτητων και εναλλακτικών χώρων τέχνης". Η ιδέα της προξενίας, όπως ήταν γνωστή στην Αρχαία Ελλάδα βρίσκεται στον πυρήνα της έκθεσης που επιδιώκει να αναδείξει το "είμαστε μαζί" αλλά "δεν είμαστε ίδιοι".

Introducing ‘No Space, Just a Place. Eterotopia’ a multi-layered project powered by #Gucci to support the cultural landscape and contemporary art scene in Seoul. Taking its cue from the complex history of independent and alternative art spaces in Seoul and Gucci’s Creative Director @alessandro_michele’s reflections on eterotopia, the exhibition proposes a new definition of what an "other space” might be: a place to build a different, desirable future with new ways for humans to relate to each other and to their surroundings. Curated by Myriam Ben Salah @myriambensalah, the exhibition is held at the @daelimmuseum in Seoul—a location part of the #GucciPlaces network—and features independent and alternative art spaces as well as international artists’ works including @oliviaerlanger’s ‘Ida, Ida, Ida!’ (image 1, 2 and 3) which transforms the space into a laundromat inhabited by mermaid tales and @meriembennani’s ‘Party on the CAPS’ (2018-2019): a video installation that follows the imaginary inhabitants of CAPS, an Island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean where refugees and immigrants "illegally” traversing borders are interned. Set up by @archiviopersonale, ‘No Space, Just a Place’ will run until July 12, 2020. #AlessandroMichele #NoSpaceJustAPlace

Propelled by #Gucci Creative Director @alessandro_michele’s meditations on society and reflections on eterotopia and curated by @myriambensalah, the new exhibition ‘No Space, Just A Place’ is held at the @daelimmuseum in Seoul—a location part of the #GucciPlaces network. The exhibit features independent art spaces where artists were invited to give their own definition of what an "other space” might be. Pictured here in the first image is the work of artist Sungsil Ryu @sungsilryu—showcased by @boan1942—exploring the notion of artificial paradises. Her installation ‘Psychedelic Nature’ focuses on secular superstitions and fictitious narratives that link human beings to nature. Image 2 features @hapjungjigu that presents the work of painter #JunHyerim who unpacks through her three dimensional canvases the notion of Arcadia, with its interestingly ambivalent meaning in Korean—meaning both the "ideal land” and the "impossible to realize”. Tastehouse @tastehouse_info’s project ‘Tasteview Daelim Branch’ (seen in image 3, 4 and 5) reflects on the notion of value of art and how that value exists within a commercial space. Building an alternative commercial looking space within the museum, a ‘non-sale shop’, Tastehouse reconnects with the true value of the objects and the status of the viewer as a consumer. #NoSpaceJustAPlace will run until July 12, 2020. "Ενδιαφέρομαι για το μουσείο ως μια φυσική ετεροτοπία, έναν χώρο που είναι κυριολεκτικά άλλος και για κάποιους άλλους είναι αυτό που ψάχνουν στην τέχνη", λέει η Ben Salah, δανειζόμενη την ορολογία "ετεροτοπία" από τον Γάλλο φιλόσοφο Michel Foucault. Η έκθεση εξερευνά την "εναλλακτικότητα" μέσα από τις εστίες τέχνης που δημιουργήθηκαν τη δεκαετία του 1990 στη Νότια Κορέα, αμφισβήτησαν την εμπορική τέχνη και είχαν εμπλοκή στην πολιτική. 

Συμμετέχουν οι γκαλερί Audio Visual Pavilion, Boan1942, d/p, Hapjungjigu, OF, Post Territory Ujeongguk, space illi, Space One, Tastehouse και οι καλλιτέχνες Meriem Bennani, Olivia Erlanger, Cécile B.
